'Prelude to a Kiss' at Basement Arts

Basement Arts, the student-run theater organization, presents "Prelude to a Kiss" tonight at 7 and 11 PM and tomorrow at 7 PM at the Walgreen Drama Center on North Campus. You can see the performance free of charge.

The surreal play, about a wife who switches bodies with an old man immediately after her wedding, was written by Craig Lucas in the late 80s. Critics have interpreted the story to mirror the experience of gay men during the AIDS outbreak, when they were "literally turning into old men overnight."

I saw the 1992 movie adaptation starring a very young and dapper Alec Baldwin once when I home sick from school. (It's just one of those movies.) I did not pick up on the subtext.
