AnnArbor.com fired several reporters last week. This is on the heals of loosing 3 reporters to the Free Press. The news"paper" itself has been largely quiet on the subject of its "personnel issue" leading to speculation about the financial health of the company. Over the weekend the blogosphere produced two good pieces about the current state of AnnArbor.com. In The Ann Arbor Chronicle, Mary Morgan's article History Repeats at AnnArbor.com does an excellent job putting the firings into perspective with the organizations recent history. A2Politico's WHISPER: AnnArbor.com Slashes Staff, Fires Paid Contributors, and Loses Lead Blogger Ed Vielmetti makes some informed speculation into the companies financial situation, motivation, and importantly, what this means all means for local media coverage in Ann Arbor.
