Two Budgets, Two Rallies, Shared Outrage

The Ann Arbor Education Association (AAEA) will host a rally at 4:30 today at Forsythe Middle School, and MoveOn.org will host a rally at 5:30 at the Federal Plaza on Liberty St.

The first rally is in response to Gov. Rick Snyder's (controversial) budget and its consequences for Ann Arbor Public Schools, while the MoveOn.org rally is in response to the possible government shut down and the many essential programs (Planned Parenthood, AmeriCorps etc.) on the chopping block.

Recognizing that, while their focus is different in scale, the groups have much in common; AAEA and MoveOn coordinated efforts for this event, in addition to developing plans for future work together. Indeed, AAEA president Brit Satchwell has encouraged attendance at both events and is slated to speak at the Federal Plaza rally.

So, to put a slight twist on the 60s counterculture mantra and the slogan of the Lowell Mill Girls -- Turn On, Tune in, Turnout!

  1. I hate it when I get invited to two rallies at the same time.
