Once we were at the benefit and she was playing, however, the two of us did one of those looks where you turn to each other, each with one eyebrow raised. I'm pretty crappy when it comes to describing music, but I'd characterize her as having a voice that's soft-yet-strong, if that makes any sense. Her songs are the same. I guess what I mean is that she doesn't come off as if she's trying too hard, which isn't easy to do when you're a white girl with dreadlocks. Instead of feeling obligated to buy her CD, I'll be nabbing one up today and will be pretty mad if they all early.
I could definitely see her touring around with Daisy May, although she's not twangy at all. Her CD just came out in March, so if you want to hear for yourself, I would check out her MySpace page (I know those still exist for artists, but it still feels so Y2K) or Facebook.
Like I said, there will be a bunch of other stuff going on, including a march through the streets protesting for the support of sexual assault survivors. If you see us and you happen to be in a coffee or just downtown, come join us! It's not every day that you get a chance to be in a crowd completely devoted to ending sexual violence, and judging from how intense the speak out was, I'm willing to bet that it will be a powerful experience.
