Great new website

Chris Dzombak ‏has just turned me on to a cool local website, he made. The site answers the preferential question, "is someone dealing drugs in Liberty Plaza?" The aptly named, issomeonedealingdrugsinlibertyplaza.com displays just one answer:

But on a more serious note, what's the best course of action to take when you see drug deals taking place on your morning commute into work? Is there an anonymous tip line for the AAPD? If you call the Police, are you required to stick around and be a witness?

  1. The Ann Arbor PD is partnered with Crimestoppers. You can call 1-800-SPEAK-UP to report a crime. You are not required to remain as a witness.

If your tip leads to an arrest, you are eligible for a cash reward of up to $1000. This does not require you to leave your contact information. You will be given a reference number you can use, instead.

  2. Why would you report that? Let people abuse drugs if they want to, it's not your business.

    Lol@ website though good stuff

  3. @Anon2,

Do be honest, I wasn't really trying to report it, more just send a funny tweet. The drug dealing is something I struggle with. I don't think it should be illegal. That said, I also think that it probably shouldn't be going on in a public park. Unless it becomes legal. This is classist, I think, but dealing in public places makes it seem like a place I wouldn't want to bring kids.

  4. I agree with BCB about not wanting that to be going down in a public place that everyone should be able to use. There are a lot of things you can legally do that you can't do in a public park, and I'm sure if dealing drugs became a legal thing, that would be one of the things kept out of parks. I should probably add that I haven't decided how I feel about making drugs legal.

As a woman, I can't go to Liberty Plaza. Even passing there, I've been approached by men and followed for blocks. I'd really like to be able to go there and sit to eat my lunch, but between the creepy men (some of whom have touched me) and the drugs there, I can definitely say that it is a public space where I don't feel safe.

If there were a day that I felt like risking my physical and emotional well being enough to sit there and eat my dang lunch anyway, I just might send the cops a tip if a drug deal or anything else nearby made me feel unsafe.
