Check out this super old map of Michigan. It's taken from A New Map of North AMERICA According to the Newest Observations by Herman Moll from 1741. I like that Lake Superior is just called "Upper Lake." This map curiously leaves out the Great Michigan Plateau, a prominent feature found in some maps of the region that were made in the early 1800s.
