Central Provisions hosting a new Wednesday night pop-up

Abby Olitzky and Steve Hall (an old pal of some of us at Damn Arbor), are behind Central Provisions, a "hopeful eatery and grocer for Detroit" and are going to be hosting Wednesday night pop-ups at Braun Court, starting on March 13.

Everything they're posting about looks and sounds amazing. Lentil with Roasted Butternut Squash and lots of mint yogurt? Moroccan Chickpea and Lamb Stew with Preserved Lemon? Look at how awesome jars look (chicken pozole and spicy tomato):

Has spring sprung?

I'm seeing a lot of geese migrating northwards today. I know there's a chance of snow this week, but doesn't it feel like spring is in the air?

Dance Party tonight at Live

I'm getting word that there is a dance party tonight at Live! If you like all music that has been produced since 1960, sounds like Voyager is the party for you. Doors are at 10 and cover is free before 10:30.

May and Seth, Seth and May

Tonight at the Ark, May Erlewine and Seth Bernard will be performing. She used to be called Daisy May but there is enough nature in their songs, so she could remove nature (daisy) from her name. The video posted is of one of my favorite songs of theirs. Their music is a kind reminder of the past. The show is at The Ark, tonight at 8 pm, for $17.50.

Purple Walrus Press

EJ and I have been venturing into Ypsi with increasing frequency. On a recent trip to Bona Sera Cafe I noticed a print copy of the Purple Walrus Press. Holy crap, I print monthly, I thought, They still make those? All kidding aside, it is nice to see more local writing being produced. PWP has a pretty humorous and left-leaning tone. I especially liked their article "How The Gentiles Hijacked The Bagel":

Raisin bagels, blueberry bagels, cinnamon bagels, fragel bagels, oye!

The Jewish Liberation Bagel Front (JLBF) has a specific objective. That objective is to liberate the bagel from the clutches of the gentiles and deliver them back into the hands of the Jewish people of America, where they belong. According to many Jews, the gentiles have taken the bagel and turned it into a homogenized, bland, wishy-washy, Midwestern, white-bread piece of shmutz. Rueben Rothstein, a spokesman for the JLBF said, “Are you freaking kiddin’ me? They took our bagels, mass marketed them with blueberries, bananas, and other crap, and stole its integ- rity. Just give me a bagel, a plain bagel with a schmere of cream cheese, lox, onion, and tomato and we’re talkin’ — cripes all mighty.”

JCBF members are armed with creamed herring rocket launchers and gefilte fish gre- nades. “If it comes to that, we are ready to fight to reclaim our plain bagels,” Rothstein said. “Now gimme me some of those knishes,” he added.

Breaking News: SAES and MOLE arrested

We have just received the following screenshot that seems to imply that AAPD officers have arrested two people suspected to be the prolific taggers SAES and MOLE. These two, especially SAES have been particularly prolific in recent months. More on this story as it develops.

Chicagoist is doing a Midwestern Beer March Madness. Hate to tell'em, but it's already been done. Granted, we only included Michigan beers in our groundbreaking 2011 Michigan Microbrewery March Madness, but are there really any good midwestern beers outside of Michigan? Despite the fact that the Chicagoist's March Madness isn't super original, you may want to go over there to support your Michigan brewers.

Ann Arbor Bicycle Club

Those cyclists have some great moustaches. The Ann Arbor Public Library has some other great bike pictures from the later 1800s and early 1900s. You can check them out here.

Average commute time in Ann Arbor below national average

According to this cool interactive map from WNYC, average commute time for people living in Ann Arbor ranges from about 11-24 minutes, depending on where you live. This is below the national average of 25.4 minutes. Not too shabby. It would be interesting to have this coded in terms of commute times by mode of travel. Gentle reader, how does your commute stack up?
