Ann Arbor City Council Preview: October 19, 2026

Gentle readers, tonight is a spooktacular edition of #a2Council. Here's your agenda.

The evening kicks off with a substantial, 20-item consent agenda. Here we get the evening's first spicy chili: CA-7 a resolution to approve converting Carey Street to one-way traffic. I don't know if I have time to get into all of this, but to me, it seems like a pretty straightforward street safety improvement. Nevertheless, there is substantial opposition forming against this resolution.

There are 5 public hearings on the docket tonight. PH-1/B-1 is for the second reading of the new glue trap ban ordinance. PH-2/B-2 is the second reading of the new commercial vehicle marking ordinance. PH-3 is the second reading of the Woodbury Rezoning. Another spicy chili, but I think this is a great area to add needed housing. PH-4 /DS-1 is the resolution to approve the Brownfield Plan for University Inn Redevelopment Project at 2424 East Stadium Boulevard. PH-5/DS-2 is a resolution for S. University ROW Vacation (525 S. State).

There are two ordinance first readings on the agenda this evening. C-1 adds licensing requirements for virtual currency kiosks. C-2 updates disorderly conduct rules near places of worship.

On to the resolutions. DC-1 is a resolution to establish small business development as a strategic priority within the office of economic development. DC-2 is a resolution to initiate zoning amendments near downtown and central campus. I think this is an important tool to slow the expansion of the university. DC-3 is a resolution to support geothermal installations in city buildings. DC-4 is a resolution to accept a sidewalk easement at 1420 pearl street. DC-5 is a resolution for a tenants bill of rights. Nice to see this happening. DC-6 is a resolution to finalize the evaluation and report and amend the emploument agreement for city attorney Atleen Kaur.

And that's it folks. Make sure you follow the blow-by-blow action on Bluesky.
