More bike racks please

It's cold outside, yet so many people are bike commuting that there are not enough spots on bike racks (see above). Can we please have more bike racks on Central Campus? I don't think this bicycle thing is a fad that is going away soon (I'm looking at you, longboarders). I really appreciate the new repair stations, but more bike racks would be nice too.

One day left on Brinery Kickstarter

The Brinery is trying to raise $12,000 to increase its lacto-fermentation capacity. Currently they are about $2000 short with just 26 hours remaining. This is getting pretty intense.

Looks like someone was a jerk at the Bang! last Saturday. Via

I was kind of a jerk. You very probably don't know who I'm talking to or what I'm talking about.

I'm sorry anyway.

Does a Missed Connections apology really count for much in today's world?

Bike fix-it stations now on Campus

I'm digging this newly installed bike fix-it station at the Transit Center on North University. This is a great repair stand and it's real nice to have a pump so close to my building.

Happy birthday to us!

Today is the second anniversary of Damn Arbor's launch. I just wanted to thank everyone who has been part of this wonderful journey with us: our regular authors; those of you who have on occasion contributed an article; and most importantly of all, you gentle readers. I am glad that Damn Arbor is a source of entertainment and (occasional) news for you. Thank you.

You may have noticed that we have added ads to the site. Our executive committee decided it was an appropriate time to sell out. We will be using the heaps of cash we earn from advertising to pay our authors and, hopefully fill a kids pool with coins so that we can swim in it like Scrooge McDuck. We would be happy to run ads for local businesses, so if you think you or your business would like to advertise with us, please drop us a line. Finally, if you are sitting on a heaping campaign war chest and looking to burn some cash before next Tuesday's election, let us know, and we can work something out.

In conclusion, thank you for reading this blog and sorry if the ads look tacky.

Journal of a Shut-In

Dearborn based cartoonist and friend of Damn Arbor, Jon Wilcox, has just released a mini-comic chronicling his adventures working from home. The comics are from a strip that ran pretty regularly in Columbia College's Columbia Chronicle this semester. They are now available for purchase in physical from as a heavier-weight-paperback. This 16 page booklet is full color and could be yours for just $3.00 including shipping! Do you know a shut-in? Do you yourself spend long periods of time during the work day watching the squirrels in your yard or napping with your cat? Christmas is just around the corner and Journal of a Shut-in would make the perfect gift. Hurry today, supplies are limited. If you want a preview of the comic, check out Jon's tumblr.

Milk Carton Kids at the Ark tonight

Looking for some pleasant vocal harmonies or soothing acoustic guitar to gently bring you down from last night's sugar high? Well if you are, you're in luck! Folk-pop duo, The Milk Carton Kids, are playing at the Ark tonight. Hot off a very successful NPR Tiny Desk Concert, TMCK are finishing up a whirl-wind tour of the States before going on tour with the Punch Brothers next year. I really like their sound, but you don't have to take my word for it. You can download TMCK's first two albums for free on their website. Pretty cool. They also have a song called Michigan (see video above). Very cool. Check out the music and make a decision for yourself. Doors open at 7:30 for this 8:00 pm show. Tickets are $15 and $22 plus a $3 service fee if you buy them online. From the sound of things, it might cost a lot more to see TMCK in the future.

Issues and Ale: election party

Michigan Radio, the Center for Michigan and the Ford School of Public Policy at U of M to host an election viewing party at BDubs of all places. You know what makes disappointing election results easier to stomach? Hot wings and Lester Graham's soul patch.

Ignite 7 mini-interviews

I completely missed Ann Arbor's Ignite VII, but I'm glad I was able to watch this little video.
